Monterey Week - August 13-15, 2010
What used to just be called the Monterey Historic Sports Car Races, or just Monterey Historics, has morphed into a weeklong celebration of all things automotive.
Although there are attractions taking place all week, from Monday to Sunday, most of the activities are crammed into the 3-day long weekend of August 13th to 15th.
Those activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion (formerly the Monterey Historics) take place at Mazda Raceway (formerly Laguna Seca
Raceway) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  More than 400 historic racecars dating from the 1910’s through the 1980’s compete
in 14 race classes throughout the weekend.  Featured this year are historic Bugatti formula cars, historic Formula 1 (on the series’
60th anniversary), historic Trans-Am, and stock cars (drum brakes) from the 50’s and early 60’s.  Each year a
Miata club corral,
cosponsored by MazdaUSA, is held on Saturday near turn 5.

Concorso Italiano, held on Friday, is a festival of Italian style, but mostly it is a festival of Italian cars such as Ferrari, Lamborghini,
Alfa Romeo, Lancia etal.  More than 600 Italian exotics can be expected to be on display this year at the Laguna Seca Golf
Ranch.  In addition, other marquees such as Porsche, BMW, Aston Martin, Jaguar, etc. are displayed by their owners.

The
Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is held on Sunday at Pebble Beach Golf Course.  It is arguably the premier concours event
held in the world each year.

In addition, you will find rallies, tours, auctions, car shows and other automotive events taking place throughout the week.  Click

this link - this site provides many more details on what to expect.  Keep an eye on this page as the year progresses for more
information.  But if you do plan to go, start making your hotel reservations RIGHT NOW.  Many folks (author included) book their
rooms for the following year on Sunday of the previous event.  If you have never been to Monterey/Carmel during this time, put
it on your bucket list.  Once you go you will keep coming back.
