SAMOA has had an ongoing history of supporting worthy non-profit organizations in the Sacramento area. A special relationship exists with the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento. For more than ten years SAMOA has organized fund-raisers for them. The club's annual birthday picnic included a raffle which generated more than $10,000 in donations over a five year span. In more recent years, Jack Parker has annually organized a Teddy Rear Run, wherein both teddy bears and other toys and gifts were donated by club members to the Children's Receiving Home. And we have every expectation that this relationship will continue. The CRH was founded in 1944. Its mission and vision are as follows...
MISSION The Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento is committed to changing the lives of abused and neglected children and their families by providing a safe haven of comfort, hope and healing. VISION The Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento will be the premier agency in the nation for abused and neglected children and their families through comprehensive services, excellent leadership, highly skilled staff and community partnerships.
They are the safety net for Sacramento's abused and neglected children between the ages of one and seventeen. They are the only emergency shelter of their kind in Sacramento County. They are the front door of the child protective system. A child's average length of stay at the home is about thirty days, and their campus-based facility now has the capacity to house up to 98 children. The Children's Receiving Home is a private, non-profit organization and, as such, relies on community support and donations for a significant percentage of its operating budget each year. And although we are not the largest donor to the CRH, we at SAMOA are pleased to play at least a small, but hopefully significant role in their continuing success.
