Stan & Judy Cummings
We are Judy and Stan Cummings, members since May,
2010.  We were thinking of buying a 2nd car because of
many diverse activities that occasionally left one of us
without wheels.  My daughter-in-law, Jill Thurston,
purchased a Miata a few months ago and after a ride in it, I
started looking for one.  Jill and husband Matt are also
recent members of SAMOA.

Judy is an enthusiastic quilter who makes quilts and teaches
quilting.  She is also a NASCAR racing fan.  She is retired
from a real estate career.  I play the 4-string banjo in a
Dixieland jazz style and am now learning old time music on a
5-string banjo.  I retired from the CA Dept. of Water
Resources.  I volunteered for 10-years as a docent at the
Towe Auto Museum, now the California Automobile Museum.

I have been a car nut since I was young.  My first interest
was antique cars.  Eventually I owned a 1931 Model A Ford
Coupe and a 1924 Model T Ford Runabout.   Always a Ford
enthusiast (Ford has been a part owner of Mazda since
1979), I have belonged to the Model T Ford Club, the Model
A Ford Club and the Early Ford V8 Club.  For several years
about 1960 I owned a 1958 MGA roadster. I remember
making several high-speed runs through the hills to Napa.

Our car is a 2001 Special Edition, number 1824 of 3000,
and seems like a nice car.  It has only 38,000 miles.  At this
time, I have only driven it about 350 miles and I am still
trying to get a handle on the throttle/clutch coordination
and sorting out the 6-speed gearbox.  Being somewhat “old
school”, I called my MG a roadster because it had side
curtains, not rollup windows.  The Miata does have rollup
windows, hence it is a convertible.
